Role overview

Confidential Client is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner (relief status) for day shifts in Palo Alto, CA. This is an entry-level, part-time opportunity to provide diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care in adult patient populations. The schedule is Day — 12 hour shifts (relief status).

What you’ll do

• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures within the Respiratory Care Services scope of practice under physician orders or established protocols
• Administer aerosolized medications (HHN, MDI, DPI), large-volume nebulizers, and intrapulmonary percussive ventilation (IPV)
• Administer medical gases (nasal cannula, oxygen mask, high-flow nasal cannula)
• Provide routine tracheostomy care, weaning, and downsizing
• Assemble, inspect, and ensure safe, functioning respiratory equipment and supplies
• Document clinical findings, treatments, and assessments in the electronic medical record
• Perform airway clearance techniques (CPT, vibratory PEP, cough assist, nasotracheal suctioning)
• Assess pulmonary mechanics using portable spirometry
• Respond to cardiopulmonary arrests and rapid response calls
• Provide emergency non‑traumatic respiratory therapies when needed
• Educate patients, families, and the care team on respiratory procedures, medications, modalities, and disease processes
• Provide noninvasive (CPAP/BiPAP) and invasive ventilation support for medically stable patients
• Perform arterial blood gas sampling and analysis
• Supervise and train staff and community college students on general medical floors

Compensation

• Base Pay Scale: $64.34 - $72.10 per hour (hourly range provided by the employer)
• Final pay will be set based on factors including internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Education & experience

• Associate degree from an AMA‑approved Respiratory Care Program required
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Current enrollment in an AMA Respiratory Care Program may be considered
• No prior respiratory care work experience required — this is an entry-level role

---

Licenses, certifications & required credentials

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or equivalent (required). Advanced credentialing preferred (e.g., RRT‑ACCS, RRT‑NPS, CPFT, RPFT)
• Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in California (required)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required

Required knowledge, skills & abilities

• Strong communication skills and ability to adjust messaging to the listener’s level
• Critical thinking and clinical analysis skills
• Ability to process equipment and use personal protective equipment to reduce infection risk
• Familiarity with common medical terminology and respiratory care technologies
• Knowledge of cardiopulmonary anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and respiratory therapy indications/contraindications
• Commitment to delivering excellent patient experience and collaborative care

Physical demands & work conditions

• Category I blood borne pathogen exposure risk — tasks may involve contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues
• Role requires lifting, moving patients/equipment, and standing for long periods consistent with respiratory therapist duties
