What You’ll Do

This is an entry-level Resident STEM Teacher role supporting secondary science (grades 6–12). As a Resident, you will co-plan and co-deliver STEM lessons alongside a mentor teacher while receiving intensive coaching and professional development designed to prepare you for a lead teaching role.

  • Co-plan and co-deliver engaging STEM lessons aligned to middle or high school standards under a mentor teacher’s guidance
  • Lead small groups, tutoring sessions, lab demos, and targeted interventions
  • Use the Danielson Framework and observation feedback to strengthen instruction
  • Participate in regular observations, professional development sessions, and site visits to study effective practice
  • Transition gradually from supporting tasks to increased classroom leadership across the residency year

  • Build strong, positive relationships with students to foster engagement and belonging
  • Reinforce classroom culture and expectations to maintain a joyful, structured learning environment
  • Incorporate hands-on, inquiry-based strategies and classroom technology to develop critical thinking
  • Participate in individualized coaching and mentoring tied to student outcomes and professional goals
  • Engage actively with a residency cohort to collaborate and share best practices
  • Receive priority consideration for lead teacher placement upon successful completion of the residency

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree completed (STEM major or relevant coursework strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated interest in teaching, equity, and working with youth
  • Experience with youth (tutoring, mentoring, coaching, after-school programs) preferred
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to continuous learning, openness to coaching, and evidence-based improvement
