What You’ll Do

This entry-level Researcher role at a Confidential Client in the biotechnology / life sciences sector provides structured training and hands-on experience in process development, experimental Research Use Only (RUO) batch manufacture, analytical testing, and lab data processing. Primary responsibilities include:

• Prepare materials, reagents, solutions, equipment, and work areas; perform calculations and verify material identity and quantities.
• Execute RUO and experimental solid-support manufacturing tasks (support loading, reaction monitoring, sampling, washing, filtration, drying, packaging) following assigned procedures.
• Maintain accurate and timely batch records, laboratory notebooks, equipment logs, and sample traceability.
• Perform in-process and final RUO testing after training; compile analytical results for technical review.
• Cross-train on QC test methods and support sample preparation, instrument operation, testing, and reporting.
• Support analytical method development, validation/verification, and transfer through assigned experimental execution and documentation.
• Process and organize analytical and process data; perform calculations, spreadsheet analyses, plotting, and basic statistical summaries for technical review.
• Assist with process studies, investigations, and continuous improvement activities; document observations and propose improvements.
• Support Business Development (BD) and Process Development (PD) with English–Mandarin communication, technical summaries, meeting notes, and customer-facing documentation as assigned.
• Help prepare preliminary statements of work and cost estimates using provided assumptions.
• Participate in customer visits and occasional business travel, potentially including travel to China or other Asian markets.
• Contribute to drafting or revising protocols, SOPs, and technical reports under supervision as technical skills develop.
• Perform other duties as assigned by PD management.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, chemical engineering, or related scientific field.
• Hands-on laboratory coursework with safe lab practices, accurate measurement, following written procedures, and documenting results.
• Strong quantitative aptitude (unit conversions, concentrations, dilutions, basic statistics).
• Demonstrable academic performance (GPA, honors, research experience, internships, or relevant coursework).
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin (spoken and written) is required to support communication with Mandarin-speaking customers and colleagues.

Preferred / Helpful Experience

• Undergraduate research, internships, or prior lab experience.
• Familiarity with solid supports, oligonucleotide chemistry, analytical instrumentation, or quality management systems.
• Experience using Microsoft Excel (formulas, data organization, plotting), Word, and PowerPoint.

• Attention to detail and disciplined documentation habits to preserve raw data and traceability.
• Ability to learn experimental methods, instruments, and safety procedures through training and supervision.
• Clear written and verbal communication; ability to prepare concise technical summaries, meeting notes, and customer-facing content.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a small, cross-functional team environment.
• Willingness to ask for guidance when results or equipment conditions fall outside expected ranges.
• Ability to learn process costing and unit economics basics (material use, labor, equipment, yield impacts).

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Full-time, on-site position in Carlsbad, CA; occasional remote work may be permitted with management approval.
• Frequent sitting at a desk using a computer; frequent standing and walking to observe equipment and record entries.
• Frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs; occasional assisted lifting of items over 100 lbs and occasional overhead lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to bend, squat, kneel, crawl, and perform hand/wrist motions as required by lab tasks.
• Exposure to varying temperatures, noise above 85 dB, gases/fumes/mists, and chemicals with appropriate PPE.
• Safety shoes and other PPE required in designated areas.
• Ability to work extended hours and occasional evenings/weekends as business needs require; travel may be required.
