What You’ll Do
This Research Technician role supports a post-baccalaureate immunology research program and combines routine lab work with data collection and analysis. Responsibilities include:
- Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and safety procedures.
- Prepare and handle biological samples, reagents, and solutions precisely.
- Operate, clean, calibrate, and perform routine troubleshooting on common lab equipment and instruments.
- Maintain accurate, organized experimental records and lab notebooks.
- Compile, analyze, and summarize experimental data using appropriate statistical methods and scientific software.
- Assist in interpreting results, preparing figures, and contributing to presentations or reports.
- Support lab meetings, participate in workshops/seminars, and follow assigned training plans.
Who You Are (Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field required (candidates completing their degree may have up to six months — up to one year for per diem — to provide verification). Experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- 1–2 years of prior laboratory experience preferred (academic labs, internships, or related employment).
- Strong knowledge of standard laboratory techniques and safety practices.
- Familiarity with common research instruments and basic calibration/troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in data collection, basic statistical analysis, and scientific software tools.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Strong problem-solving aptitude and effective written/verbal communication skills.
Program Details & Benefits
This position is part of the Catherine Othieno Sempa Memorial Post Baccalaureate Scholars Program — a two‑year immersive immunology research program designed for recent graduates from HBCUs, MSIs, and the University of Puerto Rico. Participants will be employed as paid, full-time Research Technicians and receive:
- Competitive salary and benefits consistent with Research Technician employment.
- An individualized training plan and mentorship by senior investigators or postdoctoral mentors.
- Training in scientific communication and participation in seminars, workshops, and lab meetings.
- Graduate school preparation support and travel sponsorship to a national conference.
- A $3,000 travel allowance.
Program Eligibility
Applicants must meet program eligibility requirements:
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Completed a four‑year college/university degree no more than one year before program start.
- Major in biological sciences or biological engineering.
- Minimum GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale and prior participation in scientific research.
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing a graduate research degree (M.S., M.A., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D.).
- This program is not designed primarily for applicants focused on clinical practice.
- Open to individuals from Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and students from the University of Puerto Rico.

Pay Range
