What You’ll Do
This Research Specialist (Ophthalmology) will support laboratory research in ophthalmology by performing experiments, analyzing data, and helping maintain lab workflows. You will work under investigator supervision and contribute to method development, troubleshooting, and training.
- Plan and run experiments after discussion with investigators; modify protocols within investigator-approved parameters
- Perform assays and laboratory techniques relevant to ophthalmology research
- Interpret experimental results (read controls, assess data quality) and report findings
- Use lab experience to evaluate whether experiment components are performing as expected
- Process and format analyzed data into figures for scientific presentations and publications
- Assist in developing new techniques, instruments, and protocol improvements
- Train and orient students, trainees, and new staff in laboratory procedures
- Order routine equipment and supplies; interface with vendors as needed
- Help problem-solve assay issues for entry-level lab members
- Contribute to methods sections for manuscripts and grant documents, and participate in productivity/efficiency initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum required
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field
- At least one year of laboratory experience performing relevant techniques
- Ability to read and interpret experimental controls and results
- Strong attention to detail and good laboratory recordkeeping
Preferred
- Experience in ophthalmology or biomedical research labs
- Familiarity with data visualization for publications
- Prior experience training or supervising junior lab members
- Comfort ordering lab supplies and interfacing with vendors

Compensation & Schedule
- Hourly range: $17.16 - $29.90 per hour (targeted: $26.68/hour; commensurate with experience)
- Employment type: Full-time, Non-Exempt (hourly)
- Normal schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

- On-site at the School of Medicine campus — Baltimore, MD (this posting is for the Baltimore, MD location)
