Position Highlights
The Department of Surgery at our Confidential Client is seeking a motivated Research Professional I (Part-Time) to support translational research in wound healing, tissue regeneration, and advanced therapeutics. This entry-level, hands-on lab role is ideal for candidates who want practical experience in cell culture, islet processing, and laboratory data collection in an academic medical research environment.

Duties & Responsibilities
The Research Professional I will work under supervision to support lab experiments, data collection, and routine lab maintenance. Key responsibilities include:
- Human islet isolation and processing under cleanroom/regulated conditions, including receipt of donor tissue (may require nights/weekends as needed).
- Conduct in vitro work: islet culture, sampling, functional assessments, and real-time documentation of procedures to meet regulatory standards.
- Perform routine laboratory experiments using sterile technique (cell culture, sample processing, slide preparation and staining).
- Run and maintain oxygen consumption measurements and associated instrumentation; troubleshoot equipment as needed.
- Maintain detailed records in lab notebooks and electronic databases to ensure data integrity and compliance.
- Learn to operate and maintain lab equipment (centrifuges, microscopes, microtomes, spectrophotometers, pipettes, etc.).
- Prepare reagents, media, and supplies for experiments and ensure cleanliness and proper operation of equipment.
- Collaborate with postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and PIs; attend lab meetings, journal clubs, and seminars.
- Assist senior staff with data preparation for reports and grant proposals.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic laboratory skills: pipetting, centrifugation, microscopy, aseptic technique.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to follow protocols precisely and work collaboratively.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to work occasional nights/weekends for tissue receipt and processing.
Minimum & Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent advanced learning through experience).
- Minimum 1 year of relevant laboratory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience isolating islets from human pancreas.

2 years experience in aseptic laboratory techniques.
- Proficiency with cell culture (maintenance, passaging, quantification, cryopreservation).
- Experience working under BSL-2 or institutional lab safety protocols.
- Enthusiasm for wound healing, regenerative medicine, and translational science.
- Degree in Biology, Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Genetics, Biophysics, or related life science.
