About the Team

The Allen Lab studies how the lung parenchyma shapes immune responses across the lifespan, with a focus on how aging alters tissue–immune interactions. This new lab (opening in the fall) will investigate stromal–immune circuits that influence inflammatory T cell responses in aged lungs. The Research Associate I will join a collaborative team focused on translational and basic science questions in pulmonary immunology.


About the Role

This is a full-time, entry‑level laboratory position based in Textile Finance, CA. The role requires a minimum two‑year commitment to allow for training and development. Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate I will carry out routine and progressively complex experimental protocols, maintain accurate records, support lab operations, and contribute to data preparation for presentations and publications. This role does not include formal supervisory responsibilities.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Designs or follows complex lab protocols and develops technical expertise in assigned techniques.
  • Executes experiments and keeps accurate, detailed records of procedures and results.
  • Troubleshoots unexpected results and assists with experimental optimization.
  • Orders and manages laboratory supplies; supports daily lab operations and inventory.
  • Maintains and coordinates the use of lab equipment; documents maintenance and calibration.
  • Assists in operation of specialized equipment as required by research projects.
  • Orients and supports less-experienced lab members or student researchers in routine procedures.

Department-Specific Duties

  • Performing molecular and cellular biology techniques such as PCR, protein extraction, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Routine mammalian cell culture work and maintenance.
  • Flow cytometry sample preparation and support for instrument use.
  • Assisting with animal work including husbandry, genotyping, and experimental procedures (as required by protocols).
  • Preparing reagents, managing inventories, and maintaining lab safety and compliance records.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or closely related field is required.
  • Prior research laboratory experience is required; familiarity with routine lab protocols expected.
  • Hands-on experience or coursework in PCR, cell culture, and basic molecular biology preferred.
  • Experience with flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, or animal genotyping is a plus.
  • Strong record-keeping, effective communication, and digital literacy.
  • Ability to work reliably in a team, follow safety procedures, and commit to the required training period.
