What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a Research Assistant to support oncology-focused laboratory and clinical/population research at their Detroit, MI campus. This is a full-time role contributing to study execution, data collection, and analysis to advance cancer research.

• Support and execute laboratory-based experiments and clinical/population (human-subjects) research protocols.
• Recruit and screen study participants, develop surveys, and conduct interviews as needed.
• Collect, log, proofread, and manage laboratory results, clinical outcomes, and survey data.
• Perform basic data analysis and create charts, tables, and visual summaries to communicate findings.
• Assist principal investigators and postdoctoral researchers by drafting methods, organizing results, and preparing materials for presentations and manuscripts.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, order supplies, and keep workspaces organized and compliant with protocols.
• Compile clinical study information and assist with submittals to registries such as ClinicalTrials.gov when applicable.
• Participate in training or educational activities related to biostatistics/bioinformatics if required.

Responsibilities — Unique / Specialized Duties

• Perform statistical and/or bioinformatics analyses under faculty guidance and prepare summary reports.
• Contribute to manuscript and abstract preparation; proofread documents prior to submission.
• Stay current with statistical, bioinformatics, and programming methods relevant to cancer research.
• Support a broad range of biostatistical/bioinformatics requests across collaborative medical research projects.
• When needed, assist with instruction or mentoring of trainees (fellows, residents, graduate students) in biostatistics/bioinformatics methods.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline required; master’s degree preferred for some assignments.
• Experience: Entry-level — less than one year of directly related experience is acceptable; relevant academic research experience (e.g., MS/PhD coursework, thesis work) will be considered.
• Knowledge & skills:
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques or experience interacting with human subjects.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time-management abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); ability to prepare clear reports and figures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Biomedical Informatics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a closely related field.
• At least 2 years experience using R for statistical analysis (experience gained during MS/PhD counts toward this).
• Prior experience in statistical or bioinformatics work supporting collaborative medical research, particularly cancer research.
• Familiarity with causal inference methods (e.g., structural equation modeling) is a plus.
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new analytical methods and apply them to evolving research needs.

• Employment type: Full Time, Regular Employee

• Estimated compensation: $56,366 per year (estimated). Final offer will depend on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. Compensation is subject to change.
