Research Assistant, Basic Science - Department of Oncology
The Research Assistant in Basic Science within the Department of Oncology at Confidential Client supports laboratory-based scientific research by performing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and assisting in the preparation of scientific presentations and publications. What You’ll Do
As a Research Assistant on the confidential client’s basic science oncology team, you will support laboratory research and data analysis to advance ongoing projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Perform laboratory-based scientific techniques (cell, molecular, biological, biochemical assays)
- Assist with experimental design, setup, execution, and troubleshooting
- Collect, record, and maintain accurate laboratory results and survey data
- Analyze and summarize data using graphs, charts, and tables to highlight key findings
- Proofread and edit research data, methods, and documents for accuracy and consistency
- Assist the Principal Investigator and senior researchers in preparing methods, figures, presentations, and manuscripts for conferences and peer-reviewed journals
- Maintain laboratory equipment, perform routine maintenance, and order/organize research supplies
- Maintain a clean, compliant workstation and follow all protocol, safety, and regulatory guidelines
- Communicate experiment status and results to the Principal Investigator and postdoctoral staff
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of research goals
Qualifications
Education & experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field preferred (required level: undergraduate degree or equivalent training)
- Entry-level candidates welcome (less than 1 year of job-related experience); prior lab experience or coursework in research techniques is a plus
Knowledge, skills & abilities
- Hands-on experience or coursework in cell and molecular biology, biochemical techniques, or related laboratory methods preferred
- Strong ability to follow written protocols and work independently with supervision as needed
- Ability to analyze, summarize, and present research findings clearly in reports and spreadsheets
- Familiarity with scientific integrity and research documentation practices
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent time management, organization, interpersonal, and communication skills; proven ability to work collaboratively in a team
Preferred
- Experience preparing materials for scientific presentations or manuscripts
- Previous experience in oncology research environments is a plus
