What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring a Relay Settings Engineer to support utility substation and renewable energy projects. This role supports relay setting development, quality reviews, logic/IEC61850 work, and coordination studies across transmission and distribution equipment.
- Work with protection engineers and perform quality reviews on relay-setting packages.
- Create logic diagrams for IEC 61850 substations.
- Prepare relay settings from 4.16 kV through 500 kV: set points, logic diagrams, configuration files, and documentation.
- Support project planning, design, and construction-phase engineering and testing.
- Collaborate directly with clients and cross-functional teams at remote offices or job sites.
- Troubleshoot and solve complex substation protection and control issues.
Location & Work Arrangement
This role is offered as hybrid or remote under the following conditions:
- Fully remote is available for mid-level candidates with a minimum of three (3) years of relay-settings experience.
- Entry-level / junior candidates (1+ years of relay experience or engineering internship) must be able to work a hybrid schedule in Framingham, MA or Charlotte, NC.
- Must be willing to travel to customer sites, offices, or testing labs as needed (occasional overnight travel).
Qualifications
Associate Level
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited institution and internship experience.
Intermediate / Mid Level
- BSEE from an ABET-accredited institution and three (3)+ years of relevant relay-settings experience.
Core skills & experience (required)
- Experience creating relay settings and relay logic diagrams.
- Preparation of protective relaying coordination studies and fault study analysis.
- Familiarity with Aspen OneLiner and/or Siemens CAPE for coordination studies.
- Ability to learn and configure microprocessor relay settings (SEL, Alstom, GE, ABB, and others) for transmission (line differential, stepped distance, pilot schemes) and substation relays (capacitors, transformers, bus protection).
- Understanding and implementing control/protection schemes; interpreting schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Strong engineering judgement, attention to detail, and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Nice-to-Have (Favorable)
- Experience preparing technical reports.
- Broad understanding of power system protection concepts.
- Schweitzer AcSELerator QuickSet, GE EnerVista, Schneider Electric MiCOM familiarity.
- EIT / PE license.
- Project management interest or PMP pursuit.

Compensation
- Pay Range: $57,850.00 - $104,575.00 (annual). This range is provided by the client as a guideline and final offers consider experience, skills, and other factors.
