What You’ll Do
This is an emergency department (ED) role for a new graduate Registered Nurse (RN) participating in a structured transition-to-practice/residency program. In your first year you will work with preceptors and experienced staff to build assessment, documentation, medication administration, and prioritization skills while progressing toward full independent practice.
- Provide safe, patient-centered nursing care in the Emergency Department under preceptor supervision.
- Complete comprehensive patient assessments and contribute to individualized care plans.
- Administer medications and treatments safely; escalate concerns promptly.
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record.
- Participate fully in the nurse residency, onboarding, and competency validation program.
- Accept progressively greater patient complexity and autonomy as competencies are validated.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams; communicate clearly with patients and families.
- Follow safety, infection-control, and DNV/CMS standards at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule & Location
- Primary location: Charlottesville, VA (on-site at our client’s hospital).
- Shift: Third shift / nights — typical hours 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (three 12-hour shifts).
- Required call: Full-time nurses: 16 hours per 6 weeks; Part-time nurses: 12 hours per 6 weeks.
Who We’re Looking For — Minimum Qualifications
- Active RN license required upon hire (state RN license).
- Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN examination is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred.
- Experience: Entry-level — 0 to 1 year of nursing experience; clinical rotations completed during nursing school expected.
- Core competencies: foundational nursing knowledge, developing clinical judgment, electronic health record proficiency, safe medication administration, strong communication, time management, and openness to coaching and competency validation.
Preferred: Applicants who have completed NCLEX prior to March 2027 (new graduate cohort expected to begin early 2027).
Compensation
- Base pay range (visible): $36.00 per hour (posted range for full‑time).
- Additional compensation may include shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonuses.
- Sign-on bonus: up to $7,500 available for qualified candidates.
