Role overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) — Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a full-time, 12-hour night shift role in Charlottesville, VA. This position is open to new graduate RNs with strong ICU clinical rotations, capstone/preceptorship experience, or prior ICU patient care technician experience. Experienced critical care nurses are also encouraged to apply.
- Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), rotating weekends
- Unit: Mixed Critical Care (ICU) — 15-bed ICU + 5-bed IMCU (step-down)
- Ratio: Typically 1:1 or 1:2 depending on patient acuity
- Sign-on bonus: Up to $20,000 for qualified candidates
- Estimated base pay: $36.00 per hour (source posting)
Key responsibilities
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care during the first year of practice and beyond
- Work with preceptors and experienced RNs as part of a formal nurse residency/onboarding program
- Complete patient assessments and contribute to individualized care plans
- Administer medications and treatments safely; escalate concerns promptly
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborate with the care team (NP/PA support on-site)
- Adhere to safety, infection control, and applicable accreditation/ regulatory standards (e.g., DNV/CMS)
- Take on progressively greater autonomy and patient complexity as competencies are validated
Minimum required education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
- BSN preferred
- Students currently progressing toward RN licensure with ICU-specific rotations, capstone or preceptorship experience are eligible
Minimum required experience
- Entry-level — 0 to 1 year of nursing experience acceptable
- Clinical rotations completed during nursing school expected
- Heavy ICU rotations, capstone/preceptorship, or 18 months of critical care experience preferred
Required certifications & licensure
- Current state RN license required upon hire
- Successful completion of NCLEX-RN required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- ACLS preferred prior to hire or within 90 days of hire
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required within 6 months of hire

Schedule & compensation
- Full-time, 12-hour night shifts (7PM–7AM) with rotating weekends
- Base pay (posted): $36.00 per hour
- Additional compensation may include shift differentials, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, and bonuses where applicable
- Sign-on bonus up to $20,000 available for qualified candidates
