What You’ll Do

Under minimal supervision, provide professional nursing care for patients in the Day Surgery / Same Day Surgery setting across the age spectrum (newborn to geriatric). Responsibilities include:

• Assessing patient condition and needs, implementing nursing care plans, and documenting care in accordance with facility policies
• Preparing patients for procedures and providing perioperative and post-anesthesia nursing care consistent with unit standards
• Monitoring patients for changes in condition and escalating concerns to the care team as appropriate
• Collaborating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary staff to ensure safe, efficient patient flow through same-day surgical services
• Completing required competencies during the designated introductory period and participating in continuing education and quality improvement activities
• Performing other related duties as assigned

Who We’re Looking For (Qualifications)

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (required)
• Current Texas Registered Nurse license (required) or eligibility for state board certification
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Entry-level acceptable; preferred experience includes completion of a peri-anesthesia or critical care internship/training course
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced perioperative environment and follow established protocols

Required Certifications & Training

• BLS — active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA). Must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.
• AHA ACLS — must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role for all Surgical Services areas.
• AHA PALS — must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role for Post Anesthesia Care Unit staff who care for pediatrics.
• Preferred (but not required): CNOR (Surgery), CPAN (Post Anesthesia), SGNA (GI Lab) — board eligible/certified encouraged.

Compensation & Hours

• Pay range: $30.00 - $42.00 per hour
• Employment Type: Full-time staff role
• Schedule: Aligned with Day Surgery / Same Day Surgery operations (on-site at Fort Sam Houston, TX)
