Recreational Therapist (CTRS) Full Time
The Recreational Therapist at Confidential Client is responsible for assessing patient needs and designing individualized therapeutic programs within an interdisciplinary mental health treatment team. This role involves planning and implementing expressive arts and recreational therapies, participating in milieu programming, and ensuring patient safety through crisis intervention and monitoring. The therapist also contributes to staff training, performance improvement, and documentation to support quality mental health care delivery.

What You’ll Do
As a Recreational Therapist (CTRS) with our confidential client, you will join an interdisciplinary behavioral health team to plan, organize, and deliver evidence-informed therapeutic recreation and expressive-arts programs tailored to individual treatment goals.
- Assess patients’ capabilities, needs, interests and goals and design individualized therapeutic activity plans consistent with the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Plan and lead milieu programming, including teaching, skill-building, and therapy groups.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with assigned patients and provide therapeutic interventions using recreation, expressive arts, and psycho-educational approaches.
- Participate in rounds and treatment planning meetings and provide clinical input to the interdisciplinary plan.
- Monitor and report patient safety concerns to managers and unit leaders; participate in crisis intervention and de-escalation when required.
- Document patient progress and treatment activities according to policy and regulatory requirements.
- Support department performance improvement, training, and staff competency activities; assist with chart reviews and staff documentation quality.
- May conduct functional assessments per provider orders and coordinate with the AT Clinical Manager on internships and departmental initiatives.
- Use resources responsibly and contribute to a customer-focused, professional clinical environment.
What You’ll Need (Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
- Minimum of three months of relevant psychiatric/medical/clinical experience to develop entry-level clinical skills in therapeutic activity planning and implementation.
- Knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles, expressive arts therapies, psycho-educational interventions, and group counseling techniques consistent with degree and clinical training.
- On-the-job training or formal education in clinical/counseling applications for psychiatric and medical populations.
- Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills; ability to engage diverse patient populations across clinical settings.
Employment Details & Compensation
- Employment type: Part-time (scheduled weekly hours: 32).
- The equivalent base pay range for this position is $22.73 - $34.09 per hour. Final base pay will be determined by location, experience, education, certifications, and FTE status. This range does not include potential shift differentials, incentives, or bonuses.
