What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking a Recreation Program Specialist (Aquatics) to support aquatics operations and community recreation programs in Capitol, SC. This role assists with planning, implementing and evaluating diversified athletic and cultural arts programming (with strong emphasis on aquatics), supervises pool operations, coordinates volunteers and instructors, and helps ensure program safety and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee and support aquatics programming, including pool supervision and daily operations
- Plan, coordinate and implement athletic and cultural arts programs and events for youth and adults
- Recruit, train and coordinate volunteers, seasonal staff and instructors
- Conduct certification clinics and ensure required staff certifications (e.g., CPR) are current
- Manage program registration, collect fees, maintain records and prepare activity reports
- Monitor facility and participant safety; maintain equipment and supply inventories
- Support community outreach, secure sponsorships and collaborate with partner organizations
- Recommend program improvements based on participation data and community feedback
- Perform routine administrative tasks (data entry, scheduling, correspondence) and other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in sports administration, parks & recreation administration, leisure services, or a closely related field
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in recreation, aquatics, or program administration
- Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License (or ability to obtain)
- CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
- Certified Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
- Lifeguard certifications and practical pool supervision experience
- Experience securing sponsorships, grants or other external funding sources
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to present to groups and draft clear reports
- Basic math and budgeting skills (addition, subtraction, ratios, percentages)
- Ability to plan, coordinate and sequence program activities and evaluate outcomes
- Proficiency with standard office equipment and basic data entry systems
- Problem-solving skills within established guidelines and policies
- Ability to make decisions that affect co-workers, participants and the public in a dynamic environment
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Light-to-moderate physical activity — frequent walking, standing and occasional lifting (up to 20 lbs)
- Work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, humidity, pool chemicals and traffic
- Must be comfortable working around children, adults and diverse community groups
Compensation
- Salary range: $43,024 – $54,855.50 per year (range provided by Confidential Client)
- Employment type: Full-time
- Note: Final compensation and benefits will be determined by Confidential Client and may include standard public-employee benefits where applicable.
