Role Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level R&D Chemist (Junior) to join their skincare and color cosmetics formulation team in Totowa, New Jersey. This hands-on role supports formulation, batch analysis and documentation, vendor communication, and product improvement work in a lab setting.


What You’ll Do

  • Maintain accurate lab notebooks and batch records.
  • Prepare and make laboratory batches for skincare and color cosmetic projects.
  • Create ingredient qualitative and quantitative lists for formulations.
  • Enter formulations into the company formulator and update records.
  • Analyze lab batches and measure physical parameters such as viscosity, pH, and density.
  • Check and document next-day specifications and follow up on ongoing stability studies.
  • Communicate with raw material vendors and attend vendor presentations.
  • Assist with color matching and formulation adjustments for color cosmetics.
  • Support compliance with color regulations and internal quality standards.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and keep raw materials and samples organized.
  • Review laboratory results with supervisor and contribute to product improvements and line extensions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, or Biology with coursework in chemistry and organic chemistry.
  • 0–3 years’ experience in R&D, cosmetic formulation, emulsions, or color product formulation (entry-level candidates encouraged).
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication; ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Understanding of cosmetic raw materials, formulation principles and production equipment.
  • Demonstrated color matching ability or experience supporting color formulation.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10–15 pounds.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $60,000 – $68,000 per year (approximate; final compensation will vary based on experience and other factors).
