Role Overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Residential Support Staff (RSS) to provide direct, front-line support in a 24/7 mental health residential program in Lancaster, OH. This hands-on position focuses on resident safety and supervision, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), supporting the treatment milieu, and documenting behavior and incidents in the EMR. Shifts are typically 8–12 hours and include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.


What You’ll Do

  • Provide continuous supervision of residents to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
  • Complete regular safety checks and documented rounds per facility protocol.
  • Monitor resident interactions and use approved non-violent crisis intervention (NCI) or de-escalation techniques when needed.
  • Assist residents with ADLs (hygiene, room upkeep, basic physical health needs).
  • Facilitate the facility schedule — meals, clinical groups, appointments — and lead assigned non-clinical psychoeducational activities and community meetings.
  • Coordinate and supervise recreational activities and supervised outings to promote social engagement.
  • Maintain accurate, real-time documentation of resident behavior, significant incidents, and shift logs in the EMR.
  • Deliver detailed hand-off reports to incoming shifts to ensure continuity of care.
  • Report clinical concerns or safety risks immediately to Nursing staff or the Mental Health Professional (MHP) on duty.
  • Assist clinical staff with vitals or supervised toxicology screenings as required.
  • Support admissions and orientations, including facility tours and required searches, and report maintenance or safety hazards.
  • Provide safe, supervised transportation for residents to off-site medical or psychiatric appointments when assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a human services field (Psychology, Social Work, etc.).
  • Prior experience in behavioral health, residential care, or hospital settings is preferred but entry-level candidates may be considered.
  • Must pass state-mandated background checks.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required or ability to obtain during onboarding.
  • Certification in a recognized crisis intervention model (e.g., CPI, NCI) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to maintain strict professional boundaries and resident confidentiality (HIPAA).
  • Strong interpersonal skills; remain calm and empathetic under stress.
  • Proficient basic computer skills for documentation and communication in an EMR.
  • Effective verbal reporting and teamwork to ensure safe hand-offs and continuity of care.

Physical & Operational Requirements

  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during 8–12 hour shifts.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs as needed.
  • Ability to physically intervene in behavioral crises according to trained safety protocols.
  • Flexible to work varied shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends).
  • Reliable transportation and punctual attendance.

Compensation & Schedule
