Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking candidates for R&D Animal Behavior Technician and related roles to support laboratory animal care for research studies. This is a Contract-to-Hire, full-time, onsite opportunity based in Minneapolis, MN. Candidates will provide hands-on animal care, post-operative monitoring, data collection, and behavioral observations in support of research protocols.


What You’ll Do

  • Provide direct care for laboratory animals before and after surgical procedures, including monitoring recovery and recording clinical data.
  • Perform routine clinical observations and chart physiological data (e.g., weights, TPRs: temperature, pulse, respiration).
  • Administer and document medications as prescribed by the veterinarian or per study protocol.
  • Monitor incision sites, change wound dressings, and assess and manage pain according to protocol.
  • Auscultate heart and lungs and report abnormalities promptly.
  • Observe and document animal behavior to identify potential welfare or study-related issues.
  • Support study procedures by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and GLP expectations as applicable.
  • Assist with general husbandry and enrichment to promote animal welfare and morale during studies.
  • Accurately document study-required activities and maintain clear records.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology, biology, animal science, or a related field is required.
  • Experience with laboratory animal care, surgical recovery monitoring, and medication administration preferred.
  • Knowledge of research animal physiology, pharmacology, and GLP/SOP compliance is strongly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with research teams.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with animal handling and care.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay range: $25.95 - $30.99 per hour. Individual compensation offered within this range will depend on qualifications, experience, and other job-related factors.
  • Contract-to-Hire; Full-time; Fully onsite in Minneapolis, MN.
  • If eligible, benefits may include: medical, dental & vision; 401(k) with pre-tax and Roth options; voluntary life & AD&D; short and long-term disability; HSA; transportation benefits; Employee Assistance Program; and applicable paid time off. Benefits and eligibility depend on classification and length of employment.

Location & Schedule

  • Workplace type: Fully onsite.
  • Location: Minneapolis, MN (onsite at client research/lab facility).
  • Role may require standing, lifting, and working with animals according to site safety and PPE guidelines.
