Role & Overview

We are seeking an experienced Python Data Scientist (EMS/Healthcare) to extend and harden a Python-based data processing pipeline that enriches EMS patient-care records before they reach search and dashboards. This is a remote, contract role supporting a Confidential Client technical lead and a lightly defined sprint-by-sprint backlog.

Responsibilities

  • Build new enrichment logic (syndromes, performance measures, and other derived fields) in an existing Python framework with tests and documentation.
  • Develop and improve probabilistic linking / entity-resolution that groups multiple EMS records into incidents and patients (using time, location, and record attributes).
  • Harden and maintain patient-token logic and ensure consistent record versioning and re-processing.
  • Integrate and work within existing Python processors, message-queue pipeline, and MongoDB-backed record store.
  • Validate and compare results on obfuscated staging data; trace and explain differences versus the current processing path.
  • Collaborate closely with the client technical lead and deliver against sprint-defined backlog items.

Required skills & qualifications

  • Strong Python experience (6+ years) building data processing in a maintained codebase.
  • Applied data science experience: entity resolution / probabilistic matching, text classification, and deriving features from structured records.
  • Working knowledge of MongoDB and familiarity with how search indexes (Solr or similar) consume processed records.
  • Comfortable with Linux for running and debugging pipelines.
  • Experience working with client-side technical direction and delivering from a lightly specified backlog.
  • Clear communicator and able to document design, tests, and validation steps.

Preferred

  • Experience with EMS, healthcare, or public-health data formats or standards (NEMSIS, ICD, RxNorm, syndromic surveillance).
  • NLP applied to clinical or incident narratives.
  • Geospatial data skills and geocoding experience.
  • Exposure to Azure Data Lake, Databricks, or Microsoft Fabric.

Additional details

  • Employment type: Contract (3+ month contract; remote / telecommute).
  • Timeline: Immediate hire.
  • Compensation: Pays up to $85 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Authorization: This role does not provide visa sponsorship. U.S. citizens or Green Card holders are encouraged to apply.
  • Note: No third-party recruiters; applicants may be asked to validate identity and eligibility to work in the U.S.
