What You’ll Do

The Purchasing Clerk supports material control, scheduling, and shop order processing for assigned value streams to ensure raw material and finished goods levels meet daily and forecasted production needs. This is an entry-level role that works with limited supervision and follows predefined purchasing rules and limits.

  • Level 1 purchasing responsibilities for predefined parts/part classes
  • Process requisitions pre-approved by managers
  • Create and maintain accurate purchase orders
  • Expedite and follow up on orders; track related documents
  • Support basic supplier communication and buyer follow-up
  • Field routine accounting questions related to purchase orders
  • Maintain basic knowledge of ship-to locations and part classifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure purchase order accuracy and timely processing
  • Monitor inventory requirements against schedules and shop orders
  • Follow up with suppliers to confirm delivery and resolve issues
  • Expedite orders when lead times or shortages occur
  • Track and file purchasing documentation
  • Work with internal teams (production, accounting, receiving) to resolve routine purchasing issues
  • Use ERP and Excel to manage ordering and reporting

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous scheduling or buying experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general MS Office
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • Ability to use basic math for data analysis
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to build relationships across functions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Business, or related field
  • Experience with Epicor or similar ERP systems
  • APICS, CPIM, CPP or similar certifications
  • Familiarity with Lean or Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • ISO experience

Physical & Visual Demands

  • Regularly walk, stand, and sit
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 20 lbs
  • Considerable time spent working at a computer
  • Moderate noise exposure due to proximity to the manufacturing floor

Work Environment & Shift

  • Office work with regular exposure to a manufacturing plant and machine shop
  • 1st shift — Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (flexible 8-hour shift)

  • Estimated salary: $43,896 per year (estimated)
