Role Overview

The Purchasing Assistant will support the Purchasing Manager and field teams by sourcing materials, tracking orders, maintaining purchasing records, and learning commercial construction procurement best practices. This is a full-time, in-office role based in Upper Marlboro, MD with strong growth potential into purchasing management for motivated candidates.

What You’ll Do

• Support procurement for 15+ active commercial construction projects — materials sourcing, vendor communication, and order tracking.
• Learn common plumbing and mechanical components used in commercial HVAC and plumbing contracting.
• Place orders, monitor delivery dates, and coordinate with field teams to ensure timely material fulfillment.
• Maintain purchasing documentation and records in the accounting/purchasing system.
• Reconcile purchase orders, invoices, and receiving documentation with accounting as needed.
• Provide general administrative support across departments when needed.
• Continuously learn procurement workflows and assist in process improvements.

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience in commercial construction, plumbing/mechanical contracting, or materials purchasing is preferred but not required — entry-level candidates who are eager to learn are encouraged to apply.
• Basic familiarity with purchasing systems, MS Excel, and standard office software.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate with field personnel and vendors.
• Attention to detail and organized record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work in-office full time and support fast-paced project schedules.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $60,000 – $75,000 per year, plus performance-based bonuses.
• Paid time off: approximately 2 weeks vacation plus paid holidays.
