What You’ll Do

The Confidential Client is hiring a Public Relations Assistant to support day-to-day media content creation and public communications for initiatives based in Indianapolis, IN. This is an entry-level, hands-on role ideal for someone interested in government or public-sector communications, media relations, and storytelling.

  • Capture and edit photos and video at events, press conferences, community outreach, and office activities.
  • Draft press releases, short statements, and media advisories under supervision.
  • Create engaging social media content (posts, captions, content ideas, basic graphics) for platforms like X/Twitter and Facebook.
  • Monitor local and state news, current events, and social media mentions relevant to the office’s priorities.
  • Assist with monthly newsletters and basic communications materials.
  • Support coordination of press events and distribution of media materials.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal stakeholders, media contacts, and community partners.
  • Work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, accept feedback, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Perform other communications duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of related experience preferred; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or a related field preferred but not required.
  • Comfortable shooting and performing basic edits on video and photo content.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Good verbal communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with print, broadcast, and online media.
  • Interest in social media content creation and basic editing tools (e.g., smartphone/video editing apps, Canva).
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
  • Knowledge of current issues relevant to the Attorney General’s office is a plus.
