Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a Part-Time CDL Program Instructor/Assistant to support a vocational CDL training program based in Ephraim, UT. In this role you will assist with classroom lessons, driving-range exercises, and behind-the-wheel coaching to help students earn their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and develop safe, industry-ready driving skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with classroom instruction and deliver practical, hands-on lessons at the driving range.
• Provide behind-the-wheel training: pre-trip inspections, backing, parking, coupling/uncoupling, vehicle control, and on-road driving.
• Reinforce safe driving practices and ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
• Coordinate student driving schedules; deliver one-on-one and small-group coaching.
• Monitor and document student progress; prepare learners for CDL testing.
• Inspect and prepare program vehicles and equipment for instruction.
• Maintain accurate attendance, training, and skills-progression records.
• Collaborate with the full-time CDL instructor and Technical Programs administration.
• Perform other program-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current, valid Commercial Driver’s License appropriate for the vehicles used in the program.
• Qualified to operate commercial vehicles with manual transmissions and no “E” restriction on CDL.
• Commercial driving experience and a demonstrated safe driving history.
• Ability to meet applicable state and federal requirements for CDL instruction and commercial vehicle operation.
• Current Department of Transportation medical certification if required for assigned duties.
• Knowledge of commercial vehicle inspections and safe driving practices.
• Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and follow program procedures.
• Ability to complete required background checks and employment screenings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a CDL instructor, driver trainer, or in safety/workplace training.
• Experience mentoring or supervising new commercial drivers.
• Familiarity with current CDL testing standards and Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements.
• Background in technical education or workforce development.

Schedule & Working Conditions

• Part-time role; up to 29 hours per week. Schedule may include daytime, evening, and occasional weekend hours depending on program needs.
• Work occurs in classroom, driving-range, and on-road environments. Must be able to enter/exit commercial vehicles, sit for extended periods, conduct equipment inspections, and work outdoors in changing weather.
• Position is based in Ephraim, UT and may require occasional travel within the program’s service area.

Compensation

• Hourly rate: $25–$27 per hour (part-time).
