What You’ll Do

The Project Search Job Coach / Employment Consultant supports internship participants in developing employment skills and obtaining competitive employment through coaching, training, employer engagement, and coordination with schools and Vocational Rehabilitation.

• Provide one-on-one and group employment coaching, on-the-job training, and job-readiness instruction to Project Search interns.
• Assess, develop, and reinforce employability skills; teach workplace behaviors and essential job tasks.
• Collaborate with business liaisons, department managers, instructors, and fellow job coaches to create internship sites, write job descriptions and task lists, and plan workplace modifications.
• Promote natural supports and independence by training interns on core job duties and encouraging employer-led supports.
• Track and communicate intern progress, concerns, and potential job or rotation opportunities to the team.
• Partner with instructors to identify and recruit candidates for each program year (minimum expectation: 8 interns).
• Organize and support open houses, special events, and fundraisers related to Project Search.
• Maintain positive, collaborative communication with stakeholders including staff, consumers and their supports, community partners, employers, and Vocational Rehabilitation.
• Demonstrate familiarity (or ability to learn) with services and regulations related to employment outcomes (e.g., Social Security, Medicaid).
• Meet productivity expectations including documentation for milestone billing and timely reporting.
• Maintain accreditation requirements and pursue ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation, Psychology, Education, or related field and at least one year of relevant experience.
• Experience coaching, training, or supporting individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
• Must pass background check and negative drug screen as required by the client.
• Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, stooping, stair-climbing, and assisting interns as needed.
• Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
• Comfortable working with a diverse range of abilities and demonstrating compassion, patience, and professionalism.

Working Conditions & Other Requirements

• This role requires regular in-person interaction with interns, employers, and community partners in Elkhart, IN.
• Some travel within the county and to partner businesses or schools may be required.
• Must reliably manage schedule and leave to meet consumer and program needs.
• Consistent with applicable law, employment is contingent on required background checks and drug testing.
