Position overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager to support multiple commercial construction projects based in Vermont, CA. This early-career role offers broad project exposure across office and field operations and a structured development path toward Project Manager responsibilities.
What you’ll do
- Support the Project Management team on multiple active commercial construction projects simultaneously.
- Assist with project coordination, documentation, submittal tracking, and maintaining project files.
- Help develop and maintain project schedules and monitor progress to keep work on track.
- Coordinate communication between Project Managers, field teams, subcontractors, and design teams.
- Support cost tracking and help monitor project budgets and change orders.
- Attend periodic site visits to verify progress, address issues, and support field teams.
- Participate in preconstruction and closeout activities and help ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Contribute to projects across multiple market segments, gaining exposure to diverse delivery types.
Must-have qualifications
- 0–4 years of experience in the construction industry (project engineering, coordination, internships, or co-ops welcome).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities across several active projects.
- Willingness and ability to commute to Vermont, CA and travel periodically to project sites.
- Desire to build a career in construction project management and learn on the job.
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related technical discipline.
- Prior exposure to commercial construction projects (internship, co-op, or field experience).
- Familiarity with scheduling tools, submittal/RFI workflows, and basic cost-tracking concepts.
Compensation & benefits
- Base salary: $60,000 – $90,000 per year.
