What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking a Project Engineer (San Antonio, TX) to support construction projects through strong project documentation, submittal control, schedule tracking, and coordination between the project team and external stakeholders. This is an entry-level to early-career, full-time role focused on helping the Project Manager and Superintendent keep projects on time and on budget.
- Assist Project Manager in preparing and reviewing subcontracts and purchase orders to ensure scope, provisions, and amounts are correct.
- Maintain and organize project documentation: drawings, specifications, transmittals, correspondence, submittals, and as-built records.
- Create and maintain submittal logs and track submittal approval progress.
- Support development and maintenance of the overall project schedule and short-term look-ahead schedules.
- Make regular site visits to observe progress, verify quality, and confirm schedule adherence.
- Receive and distribute correspondence, RFIs, directives, and clarifications among Owner, Architect, Subcontractors, and Suppliers.
- Track estimated vs. actual costs and support documentation needed for billing.
- Assist with permitting, record document collection (O&M manuals, warranties), and closeout documentation as directed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Who We’re Looking For (Qualifications)
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent combination of education and technical training.
- 0–2 years’ experience in construction management, construction trades, or related internship experience (entry-level acceptable).
- Ability to read and accurately interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Working knowledge of geometry, trigonometry, and basic algebra as applied to construction tasks.
- Proficient with common office software; familiarity with project management or submittal tracking tools is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable coordinating with architects, owners, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills for maintaining project records and logs.
- Ability to perform site visits and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Prior internship or field experience on commercial construction projects.
- Familiarity with prevailing wage payrolls, timesheet processes, and payroll submittals.
- Experience expediting equipment/material deliveries and coordinating approvals.
- Basic understanding of contract language, scopes of work, and change documentation.
Physical & Work Environment
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, and hear; occasional sitting or smelling.
- May be exposed to moving machinery, high or precarious places, rough terrain, airborne particles, welding activities, and typical jobsite conditions.
