Project Engineer
The Project Engineer at Confidential Client supports the development, design, and preconstruction planning of utility-scale renewable energy projects including wind, solar, and energy storage. This role involves preparing conceptual designs, cost estimates, schedules, and risk assessments, conducting technical due diligence, coordinating project activities, and collaborating across teams to ensure projects progress on time and budget. The position requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with a hybrid work schedule based in Boulder, CO and up to 25% travel to project sites.

Key Responsibilities
- Support preconstruction and engineering for utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects from early development through notice to proceed.
- Prepare conceptual plant layouts and designs using GIS, CAD, and other design tools.
- Develop cost estimates for development-phase work and maintain estimate documentation.
- Create and update project schedules and risk registers for development projects.
- Conduct technical due diligence, including site visits and site visit reports.
- Coordinate project activities — manage work orders, design/proposal reviews, and administrative tasks to support Preconstruction and Engineering managers.
- Support contractor RFP/bid processes by providing technical information and clarifications.
- Manage engineering deliverables, drawings, and documentation in SharePoint.
- Prepare and present internal project briefings and stakeholder presentations.
Additional / Growth Responsibilities
- Build business cases and protocols to support cross-functional initiatives.
- Document and improve preconstruction and engineering processes.
- Evaluate and integrate commercial software or contribute to development of internal tools to improve technical workflows.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Entry-level to 5 years of relevant experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, or a related field (title and level will be determined by experience).
- Working knowledge of electric power systems, their design and operation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; some statistical analysis experience preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with internal teams, contractors, and customers.
- Collaborative, team-oriented approach with willingness to perform hands-on field work.
- Strong organization, multitasking, and time-management abilities.
- Authorized to work in the United States and able to travel for site visits (up to ~25% travel).
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Skills & Tools
- Experience (preferred) with utility-scale wind, solar, or battery storage projects.
- Proficient with MS Excel for data analysis and cost estimating.
- Experience managing documents in SharePoint.
- Familiarity or willingness to learn:
- Scheduling tools — MS Project or similar.
- GIS — Google Earth, ArcGIS, or GlobalMapper.
- Design tools — AutoCAD, Rated Power, Bluebeam Revu, and other electrical/civil design software.
Work Environment & Style
- Hybrid in-office role with at least three days per week onsite in the Boulder, CO office.
- Fast-paced, collaborative environment requiring clear prioritization and the ability to integrate cross-functional technical input.
- The role reports to the Preconstruction Manager and supports colleagues across development, engineering, and construction teams.
Compensation & Benefits
- Target base salary: $80,000 - $125,000 (compensation will be based on years of relevant experience).
