Role Summary
Confidential Client is hiring a Project Engineer 1 to support construction and field execution on commercial construction projects in Lauderdale, MN. This entry-level role helps implement construction fundamentals, project controls, site coordination, and quality/safety practices while learning company standards and tools. Career progression typically leads to Project Engineer 2.
What You’ll Do
Confidential Client seeks a hands-on, detail-oriented team member to assist project teams with daily field and office activities. Responsibilities include:
- Support construction management tasks: assist with punch lists, city inspections, safety and quality checks.
- Monitor on-site activities: crew size, self-perform hours, materials, equipment and productivity.
- Assist with estimating and change management tasks (quantity take-offs, subcontractor proposal reviews).
- Maintain drawings and specifications to ensure the team is working from current documents.
- Prepare and submit project documentation and reports (daily reports, weekly progress, manpower, percentage complete).
- Track procurement items, shop drawings and follow up on deliveries per schedule.
- Support project close-out activities: as-built drawings, O&M manuals, punch lists.
- Participate in project meetings and coordinate communication among foremen, superintendents and subcontractors.
- Learn and apply Lean practices and company best-practice construction techniques.
- Report progress and provide data to support project scheduling and productivity assessments.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field — or equivalent relevant experience.
- Entry-level construction experience; familiarity with construction site practices preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform accurate, timely work and prioritize tasks.
- Basic understanding of construction means & methods, trades and scopes of work.
- Knowledge or willingness to learn Lean construction principles and construction technologies.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform frequent physical activities (standing, walking, climbing, bending).
Working Conditions & Travel
- On-site work in variable weather (hot or cold) and non-traditional hours as project needs require.
- May require occasional travel or relocation.
- Frequent physical activity: standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling.
- Occasional sedentary tasks: sitting and computer work.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range (Lauderdale, MN): $74,958.32 – $93,697.91 per year, depending on experience. Eligible for a target bonus based on individual and company performance.
