Position overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Project Engineer to support construction field execution and project management activities. This role is hands-on and ideal for recent graduates in construction management or engineering, or early-career professionals who want practical experience in self-perform work, quality/safety processes, scheduling, and project documentation.
What You’ll Do
- Support construction and field execution by applying construction fundamentals and company best practices.
- Participate in project safety and quality initiatives; help maintain an injury‑free jobsite culture.
- Assist with QA/QC planning and documentation for assigned tasks.
- Support estimating and change management activities, including take-offs and subcontractor proposal reviews.
- Monitor crew size, self-perform hours, materials, quantities, and equipment on-site.
- Participate in punch lists, city inspections, safety and quality reviews; document outcomes.
- Maintain current drawings and specifications; post revisions as required.
- Prepare and distribute project meeting notes and required documentation.
- Produce a variety of routine reports (daily reports, weekly progress, manpower, production, equipment tracking).
- Perform periodic site observations with project leadership.
- Create and maintain procurement logs, track shop drawings, and follow up on deliveries.
- Provide progress updates to support scheduling and project closeout activities (O&M manuals, as‑builts, punch lists).
- Help identify and support integration of self‑perform opportunities.
- Learn and apply Lean practices and build strong relationships with trades and project team members.
Knowledge, skills & abilities
- Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and on time.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Basic knowledge of construction technology and means & methods.
- Understanding of labor productivity, self-perform scopes, and trade scopes of work.
- Ability to assess and help optimize project productivity.
- Teamwork and relationship-building skills with foremen, superintendents, subcontractors, and project staff.
- Familiarity with Lean process principles is helpful.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil/Construction Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience
- Entry-level construction experience; internships, co-ops or field exposure are a plus.
Working environment & physical requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- May require travel and/or relocation for project assignments.
- May require non-traditional hours to meet project needs.
- May be exposed to extreme weather conditions.
- Frequent activity: standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling.
- Occasional activity: sitting, computer work.
Compensation & benefits
- Base compensation: $72,000 — $90,000 per year (depending on experience). Exceptional candidates may be considered above this range.
- Eligible for a target bonus based on individual and company performance.
- Benefits package: Professional non-union benefits (health, retirement, paid time off, etc.). Specifics provided by the Confidential Client.
