Position overview

This Project Coordinator supports a confidential client’s Department of Oncology Population Studies & Disparities Research (PSDR) initiatives in Detroit, MI. The role focuses on program and research coordination across training, education, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) efforts within an NCI-designated cancer center environment. This is a full-time, regular employee position based in Detroit, MI (on-site / normal office environment).


What You’ll Do

The Project Coordinator will manage day-to-day project activities that enable research training, education, and DEI programming to succeed. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and track project work plans, task lists, and calendars to ensure milestones and deliverables are met
  • Serve as primary event coordinator for internal and external meetings, symposia, site visits, career panels, and advisory meetings
  • Manage logistics for visiting presenters, including agendas, itineraries, travel, catering, facilities, and audio-visual needs
  • Support preparation of research reports, manuscripts, presentations, and materials for grant submissions
  • Act as liaison to students, community partners, and other research entities to assemble multidisciplinary teams
  • Manage participant application processes, reviewer assignments, mentor matching, onboarding, attendance tracking, alumni records, certificates, and recognition items
  • Process financial and procurement tasks: payment vouchers, P‑card documentation, invoices, honoraria, reimbursements, travel, index transfers, and approvals while maintaining audit-ready records
  • Administer program surveys and conduct basic survey analysis; clean and export data, update dashboards, and prepare descriptive summaries
  • Maintain program files, templates, confidential records, and program archives according to institutional policies
  • Use artificial intelligence tools to draft emails, summarize notes, and assist research or administrative tasks to improve efficiency
  • Perform other related duties and support cross-office coordination between CRTEC, DEI, and other cancer center initiatives

What We’re Looking For

Minimum required skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred fields: public health, health services administration, or related health discipline)
  • Entry-level experience is acceptable; demonstrated volunteer or community engagement experience is valued
  • Strong project coordination capabilities: organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfort presenting to diverse groups
  • Ability to work effectively as part of diverse teams and to accept and provide constructive feedback
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for document, data, and presentation preparation
  • Familiarity with survey platforms, basic data cleaning, and dashboard updates
  • Ability to handle confidential records in accordance with institutional policies (FERPA/HIPAA awareness preferred)
  • Experience or comfort using AI tools for drafting, summarizing, and research support
  • Location requirement: able to work in Detroit, MI

Preferred but not required:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 1–2 years of program, project, or administrative coordination experience in academic, healthcare, research, or nonprofit settings
  • Experience supporting NIH-funded programs, NCI-designated cancer centers, or federally sponsored training grants
  • Experience with institutional financial systems for procurement, travel, reimbursements, and honoraria
  • Multilingual communication skills (English plus Arabic or Spanish preferred)
  • Experience supervising or directing student employees or interns

Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated annual salary: $47,627 (estimated)
