What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a Professional Accountant Specialist to support audit and accounting work within the Accounting & Auditing division. This role focuses on performing audits of State funds, evaluating compliance with laws and policies, and producing clear, accurate reports of findings.

  • Conduct audits of public/state funds following established audit plans and work programs
  • Prepare written summaries and audit reports documenting scope, methodology and results
  • Identify noncompliance with applicable laws, rules and Department guidelines
  • Assist with management studies of state entities, programs and processes
  • Complete assigned special projects and communicate results to management
  • Produce reports, correspondence and work papers that accurately reflect audit objectives and methodology

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following required entry-level knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles, theories and concepts
  • Ability to examine, audit and evaluate financial records
  • Ability to research, understand and apply statutes, administrative rules, policies and procedures governing contracts, grant agreements and disbursements
  • Ability to conduct audits and prepare audit reports
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to plan, organize and coordinate assignments
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

The following are preferred but not required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Experience working with a state agency within the State Personnel System
  • Professional experience reviewing and analyzing agency contracts and agreements
  • Experience conducting financial, operational, or contract audits
  • Experience interpreting and applying laws, rules and agency policies

Compensation

  • Posted salary: $49,839.59 per year (as listed by the client)

  • This position requires a security background check, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment.
