Role Overview
Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is seeking a Product Manager, Payments to lead strategy, execution, and continuous improvement for payment products. This is an on-site role in Sugar Land, TX. You will own payment initiatives from concept through launch — including card payments, EBT/SNAP, Tap to Pay, payment links, banking/financial services, digital wallets, and integrations across POS, mobile, and online channels.
What You’ll Do
- Own the payments product roadmap and prioritize features across card payments, EBT, contactless (Tap to Pay), payment links, embedded banking, and related services.
- Drive product lifecycle from discovery and requirements through development, certification, rollout, and iterative improvement.
- Translate merchant and business needs into clear product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Coordinate closely with Engineering, Operations, Support, Finance, Sales, payment processors, acquiring banks, hardware vendors, and other third parties.
- Manage and validate payment integrations across POS, mobile apps, e-commerce, and supporting platforms.
- Monitor transaction trends, product adoption, performance metrics, and support tickets to identify issues and enhancement opportunities.
- Ensure robust documentation, test plans, compliance/certification readiness, and stakeholder alignment.
- Communicate roadmap status, risks, and dependencies to leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Stay current on payment industry trends, regulations, and competitive offerings.
- Travel as needed for customer visits, partner meetings, trade shows, and implementations.
Qualifications
Required
- 1–3+ years in Product Management, Payments, FinTech, SaaS, POS, retail technology, or related fields.
- Strong organizational skills and experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with technical and business stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Ops, Support, Sales, and Finance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable using product and transaction data to inform decisions.
- Experience using Claude, ChatGPT, or similar LLMs as part of product/workflow design or analysis.
- Comfortable managing external vendors, payment processors, and banking partners.
- Willingness and ability to travel for customer and business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with merchant acquiring, payment processors, gateways, POS systems, or embedded FinTech products.
- Familiarity with EBT/SNAP programs, contactless payments, Tap to Pay, digital wallets, payment links, or embedded banking.
- Hands-on experience with payment APIs, third-party integrations, and certification processes.
- Familiarity with product development tools such as Jira and tracking product metrics.
- Background in convenience retail, grocery, restaurant, or retail technology is a plus.
