What You’ll Do

This role blends hands-on mechanical engineering and product ownership to take hardware accessories and mounting solutions from concept to production. You will work across engineering, sourcing, manufacturing partners, sales, and customers to deliver robust, manufacturable products.

  • Lead design and development of mechanical products (tablet/laptop/mobile device accessories, mounts, charging systems) from concept through mass production
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, and product specifications (SolidWorks or similar)
  • Design and optimize components for plastic injection molding, sheet metal, aluminum, steel, and other processes
  • Build and iterate prototypes using 3D printing and rapid-prototyping techniques to validate form, fit, and function
  • Collaborate with overseas manufacturing partners to optimize designs for manufacturability, tooling, cost, and quality
  • Conduct testing, validation, and failure analysis; drive corrective actions and continuous improvements
  • Prepare assembly instructions, technical documentation, and product records in ERP/PDM systems
  • Gather customer and sales feedback; translate market needs into product requirements and roadmaps
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects with clear milestones, schedules, and stakeholder communication
  • Support sourcing decisions (materials, components, connectors, tooling) and evaluate supplier proposals
  • Present concepts, prototypes, and program updates to internal leadership and customers
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable safety, regulatory, and quality standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • 3+ years of mechanical product design and development experience (hardware accessories or commercial products preferred)
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software
  • Hands-on experience with plastic injection molded parts, sheet metal, aluminum/steel components, and assemblies
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, GD&T, tolerancing, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
  • Experience creating BOMs, engineering drawings, and technical documentation
  • Experience working with overseas manufacturers (experience with Asia-based suppliers is a plus)
  • Demonstrated ability to take products from concept through production with strong project management skills
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities
  • Strong problem-solving skills and independent judgment in fast-paced environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing consumer electronics accessories, kiosks, mounts, or enterprise hardware
  • Familiarity with tablet enclosures, charging solutions, docking systems, or mobile device accessories
  • Knowledge of injection-molding tooling, die casting, CNC machining, and extrusion processes
  • Experience with PCB/PCBA assemblies, connectors, or embedded hardware integration
  • Experience supporting large retailers or enterprise customers
