Role overview

Join our confidential client as a Producer, Digital Content to lead day-to-day digital news content for a local newsroom in Asheville, NC. You’ll work with news managers and the Digital Executive Producer to keep all digital platforms current, accurate and compelling — driving audience engagement through strong writing, analytics-driven story placement, and platform-specific social content.

  • Estimated salary: $43,470 per year (reported/estimated)

What you’ll do

  • Manage day-to-day digital news content across website and social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube).
  • Publish timely, accurate, and engaging stories that align with newsroom strategy.
  • Use digital analytics to guide story placement and optimize audience reach.
  • Monitor competitor social practices and recommend improvements to our approach.
  • Coach on-air reporters on digital best practices and social content creation.
  • Coordinate with news managers and producers to execute daily news strategies.
  • Troubleshoot publishing or workflow issues under tight deadlines.

Ideal candidate

  • Strong news judgment and excellent writing skills — fast, accurate, and mistake-free copy.
  • Demonstrated digital analytics competency and comfort using metrics to shape editorial choices.
  • Proven ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom environments.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Flexible problem-solver who can adapt and act on tight timelines.

Minimum requirements

  • Some previous news producing experience at a commercial TV station preferred (entry-level candidates with strong potential may be considered).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of — or willingness to learn — social media content creation and platform best practices (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube).
  • Self-starter mentality with persistence to develop story leads and contact sources.
  • Team player who shares information clearly and promptly and supports department goals.
  • Regularly monitor news sources and email for new releases, updates, and story opportunities.
