Role Summary

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Process Engineer I to join its engineering team in Johnson City, TN. This role develops professional engineering skills while supporting process testing, design studies, and operational programs for water/wastewater process facilities. This is an in-person, full-time position that reports to the Manager, Process Engineering.


What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate work with senior engineers and support process engineering projects.
  • Conduct process testing in the field, run supporting laboratory tests, and maintain field analyzers.
  • Prepare engineering and planning studies, conceptual designs, and cost estimates under supervision.
  • Assist with analysis to identify system inadequacies, ambiguities, and potential problems.
  • Provide limited coverage for Central Control Room operations, escalating issues as needed.
  • Help develop long- and short-term programs for construction or repair of process facilities.
  • Under supervision, review consultant designs and contractor submittals; assist with change orders.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and technical documentation.
  • Follow applicable safety rules and maintain regulatory and quality standards.
  • Perform other in-office and field civil/process engineering tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • 0–1 year of relevant experience; experience in a water/wastewater utility or industrial environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and principles.
  • Strong written communication and report-writing skills.
  • Proficient with common office software (MS Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook).
  • English language proficiency.

Preferred

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

  • None required for this level.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; exposure to variable temperatures is possible.
  • May be exposed to noise, fumes, dust, mists, gases, chemicals, or other site-specific hazards.
  • Must follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment as required.
