About the Role

Confidential Client is hiring a Probation/Parole Office I to supervise adult offenders and support court-ordered supervision and rehabilitative programming. This is an in-person role based in Wyomissing Hills, PA. The position enforces Court orders, assesses offender risk and needs, develops case plans, monitors compliance, and connects individuals to community resources — all while prioritizing public safety and evidence-based practices.


Compensation & Schedule

  • New hires hourly starting rate: $29.65 per hour (35 hours per week)
  • Annual pay estimate (informational): approximately $54,662 per year
  • Full-time position (35 hours/week); actual compensation and classification determined by the Confidential Client’s pay scale and years of service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise assigned offenders via office, field, home, and collateral contacts (may occur during traditional and non-traditional hours).
  • Complete and maintain timely case documentation, progress reports, and court-ordered paperwork.
  • Use actuarial risk/needs assessment tools to develop individualized case plans and match participants to appropriate interventions.
  • Refer and coordinate with treatment providers and community agencies; maintain professional inter-agency relationships.
  • Employ motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral interventions to promote behavior change.
  • Monitor compliance with treatment, drug testing, electronic monitoring, community service, and other court conditions; initiate graduated responses for noncompliance.
  • Prepare pre-sentencing and progress reports; present information and testify in court as required.
  • Participate in apprehension/transportation of offenders, issue warrants, and assist with arrests when trained and authorized.
  • Meet training requirements (40 hours annually) and assist in mentoring new officers.
  • Represent the probation office in community outreach and public speaking engagements.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 18 credits in behavioral or social sciences preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
  • Valid state driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, and access to a vehicle for employment-related travel.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of investigation, supervision, and reporting practices used in probation/parole settings.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practices, motivational interviewing, and cognitive-behavioral approaches.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze facts, exercise sound judgment, and act in the interest of community safety.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with case management systems is a plus.
  • Spanish language ability is preferred for designated bilingual caseloads, but not required for all positions.
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours when necessary.
  • Ability to complete Control Tactics and TASER training if assigned, and to assist in the physical control of uncooperative subjects when trained.
  • Ability to complete and maintain firearms certification (required for those hired after July 1, 2005) — see Additional Requirements below.

Physical Demands & Working Environment

  • Regular office work plus field visits and home/community contacts; some duties performed in high-crime or hazardous environments.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, lift up to 40 lbs occasionally, and perform physical tasks as trained.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases and to weapons or hazardous situations; safety protocols and training are provided.
  • Travel throughout the county for supervision, training, and institutional visits is required.

Additional Requirements & Hiring Conditions

  • Candidates hired after July 1, 2005 must obtain firearms certification through the County Probation and Parole Officers’ Firearm and Training Commission within 18 months of hire when required by the Confidential Client. A psychological evaluation to assess fitness to carry a firearm will be required prior to a formal offer if the Confidential Client requires firearm certification.
  • Background checks and other pre-employment screenings (including psychological evaluations and training/qualification checks) may be required in accordance with applicable law.
  • Physical presence in the office is required; remote work is not an option for this position.
