What You’ll Do

This is an entry-level, trainee position supporting juvenile and adult community supervision. You will complete a one-year training period under close supervision to learn investigatory and supervisory responsibilities. Typical duties include managing a developing caseload, conducting intake and assessment interviews, preparing reports for court, monitoring compliance (including drug/alcohol testing), and operating electronic monitoring as required.

• Learn to conduct pre-sentence and pre-disposition investigations
• Assist with intake, assessment, and detention interviews
• Support supervision of clients and perform follow-up home/community visits
• Monitor compliance, collect and document drug/alcohol tests
• Prepare investigation, violation, and compliance reports for court
• Update and maintain case records and applicable databases

Responsibilities

• Become proficient in interviewing clients, families, and collateral contacts to gather case information
• Conduct risk assessments and recommend supervision levels, incentives, or sanctions
• Prepare written and verbal recommendations to the court and testify as needed
• Make community/home visits and provide referrals to community resources (housing, food, employment, behavioral health)
• Enter and maintain accurate client case records and prepare routine reports
• Participate in required training and supervision activities

Qualifications

Minimum required:

• Bachelor’s degree in social services or criminal justice (or completion within 120 days of application)
• All educational credits must be from an institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education

Desired knowledge & skills:

• Basic understanding of the criminal justice system, court procedures, and intervention principles
• Interviewing and assessment techniques
• Case documentation and record-keeping practices
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
• Ability to operate standard office software and case databases
• Comfortable making home visits and occasional fieldwork

Physical & work environment:

• Ability to perform light work (exerting up to 20 lbs occasionally)
• May be exposed to environmental hazards, restricted workspace, and travel within the district

Compensation & Benefits

• Starting Salary (Hiring Rate): $42,863.87 annually
• Hiring Rate/hour shown: $20.608 (as posted)
• Earn a 2.5% pay increase after successfully completing the probationary period (exceptions apply if starting above the Hiring Rate)
• Annual cost-of-living adjustments subject to state approval

Work Location & Schedule

• Primary work location: 1723 Harney St, Omaha, NE
• Regular travel within the district for community visits; occasional regional travel for training and workshops
• Core hours: Monday–Friday daytime; occasional on-call, evening, weekend, and holiday availability required to support 24/7 community supervision
