Role summary
Confidential Client seeks a Probation Officer (Criminal Division) to serve the Newark, NJ community. This is a full-time role focused on pre-sentence and pre-trial investigations, supervision of adults and juveniles on probation, case and courtroom coordination, and fieldwork (home and jail visits). What You’ll Do
- Interview defendants and victims to prepare pre-sentence and pre-trial investigation reports.
- Review criminal-history records and coordinate information with courts and other agencies.
- Gather restitution and collateral information from banks, insurers, hospitals, and other sources.
- Monitor probation conditions (including drug/urine testing) and enforce court orders.
- Coordinate with treatment providers, child support agencies, and community services to identify needs and interventions.
- Supervise adults or juveniles on probation and conduct field visits (homes, jails).
- Serve as calendar coordinator or courtroom support when assigned—assist with case flow, backlog reduction, and jury trial management.
- Maintain clear, accurate case documentation and communicate regularly with court staff and stakeholders.
Salary & Schedule
- Salary range (sourced from the position): Schedule A — $55,943.00 to $95,153.11 per year; Schedule B — $55,943.00 to $91,346.99 per year. Newly hired individuals typically start at the minimum of the applicable range.
- Work schedule: Full-time, regular in-office attendance required. This position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work per week (hybrid). Remote participation requires installation of multifactor authentication and high-speed home internet.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in any area, including or supplemented by 24 credit hours in behavioral or social sciences.
- Applicants nearing graduation may apply but must complete the degree before the start date if selected.
- Applicants must submit a photocopy of transcripts with application; official transcript required before start.
- Degrees earned outside the U.S. must be evaluated by a recognized evaluation service (see NACES).
- Preferred: strong interviewing, investigation, case management, and written-report skills.
- Ability to perform required physical tasks for certain assignments (standing, climbing, lifting 30–50 lbs occasionally up to 75 lbs) where needed.
- Driver’s license valid in New Jersey may be required if vehicle operation is necessary.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. required; U.S. citizenship is not required.
- Selected candidates must pass a thorough background check, including fingerprinting.
- Residency requirement: Newly hired employees may be required to establish and maintain principal residence in New Jersey within one year, subject to statutory exemptions.
