Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a Principal Data Scientist (Rentals Shopping) to lead data science efforts that improve how renters discover and secure homes. This senior, product-focused role drives strategy, modeling, experimentation, and cross-functional execution across the rentals shopping funnel—search → contact → conversion. This is a remote, U.S.-based full-time position.

What You’ll Do

• Drive the long-term data strategy and technical roadmap for the Rentals Shopping product area.
• Discover high-impact growth opportunities by analyzing consumer behavior and market dynamics.
• Lead advanced modeling and statistical initiatives across search relevance, ranking, personalization, and marketplace efficiency.
• Design and run rigorous A/B tests and experimentation frameworks; measure lift and impact.
• Apply causal inference, time-series methods, and modern ML (including LLMs/agentic workflows) to production problems.
• Partner with product, engineering, and design to translate analysis into product decisions and metrics.
• Mentor and provide technical leadership to other data scientists; establish best practices for modeling and experimentation.
• Present clear, executive-ready recommendations that influence senior cross-functional leaders.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Computer Science) or equivalent practical experience.
• Typically 8+ years of experience in quantitative analysis, modeling, and experimentation in consumer-facing technology.
• Expert-level SQL and Python skills.
• Deep experience with statistical modeling, causal inference, and time-series analysis.
• Experience working with big-data platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake.
• Track record of using data to shape long-term product roadmaps and measurable business outcomes.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to influence senior leaders.
• Demonstrated ability to lead with autonomy in complex product areas.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have)

• Prior experience in marketplace or housing/rentals-related products (helpful but not required).
• Experience applying LLMs or agentic workflows to accelerate analytics or improve user experiences.
• History of scaling data-science teams or systems in production environments.

• Location: Remote — United States.
• Primary listed location as provided by the hiring client: Kentucky, Kentucky, US.
• Work arrangement: Remote, full-time. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States with limited exceptions. Remote employees must identify their physical work location to the company.
• Typical weekly hours and expectations will be shared during the interview process.

Compensation & Benefits

• Listed base salary ranges (may vary by location):
  • $178,300–$284,700 annually for CA, CT, MD, MA, NJ, NY, WA, and DC.
  • $169,300–$270,500 annually for CO, HI, IL, ME, MN, NV, OH, RI, VT, and VA.
• Actual pay is determined by experience, performance, and work location. Eligible roles may receive equity awards.
• Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) (package details vary by location and employee status).
