Prevention Specialist I-II
The Prevention Specialist plans and implements diverse educational and outreach programs aimed at promoting community health and preventing addiction and related issues. Working under general supervision, the role involves delivering trauma-informed, culturally respectful services across multiple public health domains including child health, disaster preparedness, substance use prevention, and youth mentoring. The position requires strong community engagement, program coordination, and data management skills to support healthy communities throughout Confidential Client.

What You’ll Do
The Confidential Client is seeking a Prevention Specialist to deliver public-health focused prevention, education, and outreach across countywide programs. Core responsibilities include:
- Plan, develop and deliver prevention education and outreach across multiple programs (child health, disaster preparedness, WIC, tobacco/substance use prevention, reentry services, mentoring, oral health, outdoor programs).
- Research and synthesize evidence-based curricula and adapt materials to target audiences.
- Lead community and school presentations, home visits, classes and workshops; provide flexible scheduling including nights/weekends as needed.
- Maintain accurate program records, complete timely data entry and reporting per regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with community agencies, healthcare providers, schools and nonprofits.
- Coordinate and support volunteer mentors; recruit and train adult mentors for youth programs.
- Assist with public-health disaster preparedness planning, exercises, and coalition meetings.
- Provide direct client support, case management and referrals; conduct developmental screenings and navigation to early intervention services.
- For outdoor programming: plan outings, prepare equipment and staff, manage risk and safety plans.
- Support WIC appointments, nutrition education and participant-centered care (in-person, video, phone as needed).
Qualifications & Special Requirements
Education & experience (one of the following paths required):
- Prevention Specialist I — Path A: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Health Education, Human Services, Marketing, or closely related field.
- Prevention Specialist I — Path B: Associate’s degree in a related field PLUS one year of experience providing general education programming.
- Prevention Specialist I — Path C: High school diploma or equivalent PLUS two years of full-time experience creating and implementing public information/education programs (experience must show primary role in program delivery).
Advancement:
- Prevention Specialist II: One year of full-time experience in the Prevention Specialist I classification, OR meeting the Prevention Specialist I requirements plus an additional year of relevant prevention/community education experience.
Required / preferred skills and conditions:
- Bi-lingual (preferred).
- Strong facilitation, youth engagement, rapport-building and group leadership skills.
- Knowledge of child development, addiction and prevention strategies.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and use of media/social channels for outreach.
- Ability to travel routinely within the county; flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Must complete pre-employment background check and fingerprinting.
- May be required to drive as part of job duties — valid driver’s license may be required.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds; prolonged sitting/standing and climbing stairs may be required.
Compensation & Schedule
- Salary range (provided by employer): $59,593.32 — $81,299.28 per year.
- Employment type: Full-time.
- Job location type: Telecommute (remote work option reported) with routine travel to county sites as required.
- Work sites: positions are countywide and may be assigned to multiple sites as needed.
- Flexible hours and some night/weekend work required to meet community needs.
