Position summary

Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is seeking an early-career Preconstruction Design Engineer to join a Milwaukee-area team. This is a primarily on-site, full-time role based in the Milwaukee metro / Menomonee Falls / Saint Francis area. The role sits inside the preconstruction and sales organization as a technical design resource, working with architects to translate architectural concepts into structurally viable solutions that can be estimated and sold.

What You’ll Do

You will support architects and the sales/estimating team by developing preliminary structural solutions during early project stages.

• Review architectural concepts, sketches, drawings, and early Revit models
• Develop preliminary structural design options and engineering alternatives
• Work with structural glass and steel systems during conceptual design
• Perform preliminary structural calculations and evaluate applicable loads (including snow loads)
• Evaluate connection requirements and interfaces with existing construction
• Coordinate load and design requirements with architects, contractors, and other engineers
• Collaborate with architects to revise concepts in response to feedback
• Produce technically viable designs that support estimating and proposals
• Handoff preliminary engineering packages to execution engineering after project award

Important Role Clarification

This position is an early-career, technically focused engineering role—not a traditional sales role. The engineer acts as a design and technical resource supporting the sales and preconstruction process. Prior glass-industry experience or a preconstruction title is not required.

What We’re Looking For

• 0–3 years of professional engineering experience (entry-level / early-career)
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural Engineering, or closely related discipline with structural coursework
• Solid understanding of fundamental structural engineering principles
• Ability to perform or interpret preliminary structural calculations
• Ability to review architectural/design concepts and propose engineering solutions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable collaborating with architects, contractors, and internal teams
• Authorization to work in the United States without requiring new employer sponsorship

Preferred Background & Technical Exposure

• Structural consulting or civil/structural engineering experience
• Building structures and structural steel design
• Building envelope / façade or specialty structures exposure
• Connection/design engineering experience
• Ability to read architectural and structural drawings
• Experience with structural and load calculations
• Familiarity with Revit and/or AutoCAD
• Experience collaborating with architects or multidisciplinary teams

FE / EIT

Passing the FE exam and holding EIT status is preferred but not required. Candidates should not be excluded solely for not having FE certification.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary: $65,000–$85,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)
• Compensation flexibility for exceptional candidates with a Master’s in Structural Engineering
• Bonus: participation in a project/sales bonus pool tied to successfully closed projects
• Health insurance: employee-only coverage indicated at approximately $10/month
• 401(k): company match equal to 50% of the employee’s first 6% contribution
• PTO: 2 weeks first year; 3 weeks after five years; 4 weeks after ten years
• Paid holidays included

• Based in the Milwaukee Metro / Menomonee Falls / Saint Francis, WI area
• Primarily on-site; candidates in the greater Milwaukee metro and southeastern Wisconsin prioritized
• Candidates from Northern Illinois / Chicago may be considered (limited relocation assistance may be available)
• No regular travel requirement
