Role Overview

This early-career Preconstruction Design Engineer role supports a Confidential Client that delivers innovative architectural and structural solutions. You will work primarily onsite in the Milwaukee metro / Menomonee Falls area and partner directly with architects and the preconstruction team to convert design concepts into structurally viable solutions that can be estimated and proposed.

What You’ll Do

• Review architectural concepts, sketches, drawings, and early-stage Revit models.
• Develop preliminary structural design solutions and engineering alternatives for architects.
• Work with structural glass and specialty steel systems during conceptual design.
• Perform preliminary structural calculations and evaluate applicable loads (including snow-load analysis when required).
• Evaluate connection requirements and how systems interface with existing construction.
• Coordinate load requirements with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
• Collaborate directly with architects through design development and revise concepts based on feedback.
• Produce technically viable solutions that preserve architectural intent and support estimating/sales proposals.
• Transition preliminary engineering/design packages to execution engineering teams after a project is sold.

What We’re Looking For

• 0–3 years of professional engineering experience (entry-level / early-career).
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Civil or Structural) or closely related discipline with structural coursework.
• Solid understanding of fundamental structural engineering principles.
• Ability to perform or interpret structural calculations.
• Comfort reviewing architectural design concepts and developing practical engineering responses.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and internal teams.
• Authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring new employer sponsorship.

Preferred Background & Technical Exposure

• Structural consulting or civil/structural engineering experience.
• Building structures and structural steel design exposure.
• Architectural engineering, façade or building-envelope experience.
• Experience with specialty structures, connection/design engineering, and reading architectural/structural drawings.
• Familiarity with structural and load calculations.
• Revit and/or AutoCAD familiarity.
• Experience collaborating with architects or multidisciplinary project teams.
• FE / EIT status preferred but not required; candidates should not be screened out solely for lacking FE passage.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary: $65,000–$85,000 (dependant on qualifications and experience).
• Bonus: Participation in a project/sales bonus pool tied to successfully closed projects.
• Health insurance: Employee-only coverage indicated at approximately $10/month.
• 401(k): Company match equal to 50% of the employee’s first 6% contribution.
• PTO: 2 weeks during the first year; 3 weeks after five years; 4 weeks after ten years.
• Paid holidays included.
• Master’s-level flexibility: compensation may be flexible above the standard range for an exceptional candidate with a Master’s in Structural Engineering.

Work Location & Schedule

• Primary on-site role based in the Milwaukee Metro / Menomonee Falls, WI area. Candidates in greater Milwaukee are prioritized.
• No regular travel requirement. Limited relocation assistance may be available for strong candidates relocating from nearby markets (e.g., Northern Illinois / Chicago).
• The Confidential Client does not plan to initiate new employment sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without new employer sponsorship.
