Position overview
Confidential Client seeks an entry-level Powertrain Product Engineer to support current-product reliability, quality, and engineering for powertrain subsystems and components. This role is an early-career, product-focused position that executes established technical tasks across the product lifecycle and coordinates with cross-functional stakeholders to drive robust product decisions.
What You’ll Do
- Investigate product issues, determine root causes, recommend corrective actions, and own problem resolution for components and subsystems.
- Support Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), and Current Product Support (CPS) processes.
- Execute engineering processes such as Engineering Standard Work (ESW), iDFMEA, Failure Incident Review Group (FIRG), and 7-step problem solving.
- Collaborate with product line engineers, systems engineers, manufacturing, purchasing, suppliers, and customer teams to deliver technical recommendations.
- Support or lead elements of product investigations, PPS projects, and VPCRs that improve reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Assist in component ownership activities by monitoring failed-part teardowns and driving cross-functional quality improvements.
- Contribute to a Powertrain Engineering Group Project to deliver measurable improvements across the organization.
Core competencies & technical skills
- Applies principles of statistical methods for data analysis, hypothesis testing, regression, DOE, and design of experiments.
- Cross-functional design integration: translate requirements into designs and communicate capability via design reviews.
- Mechanical system design and specification: solid models, engineered BOMs, and detailed drawings per applicable standards.
- Understanding of open/closed-loop controls and interactions between software and hardware in powertrain systems.
- Product verification & validation: develop validation plans, analyze simulation/test data, and evaluate product capability.
- Product failure mode avoidance and product problem solving to implement robust, data-driven fixes.
- Product configuration and change management to control releases and maintain product artifact baselines.
- Strong technical documentation skills and the ability to communicate technical information to varied audiences.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant STEM discipline (required). Preferred disciplines: Mechanical Engineering; Electrical Engineering; MET/EET degrees also considered.
- Entry-level / Early Career: typically within 2 years of completing highest degree for external candidates.
- Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical, and structured problem-solving interest or experience (internships, co-ops, student projects, etc.).
- Proficiency with MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Authorized to work in the U.S. (candidates should be able to provide any required documentation). International students (F-1) must have authorized CPT or OPT that covers the assignment start date.
Preferred experience & attributes
- Hands-on experience (intern/co-op/semester project) with product investigations, failure analysis, or component testing.
- Familiarity with iDFMEA, validation/verification processes, and engineering change control.
- Strong oral and written communication; ability to work cross-functionally and influence outcomes.
- Self-driven, results-oriented, and invested in continuous learning and development.

Compensation & benefits
- Estimated base salary range: $67,200 — $100,800 per year (as provided by the client).
