Overview

This position is for an Associate Electrical Engineer focused on Power System Studies supporting transmission system design and interconnection studies. The confidential client is seeking an early-career engineer (typically 1–4 years of experience) with hands-on exposure to transmission system analyses, modeling tools, and familiarity with industry standards (NERC, ISOs). The role supports project teams to deliver system studies, equipment recommendations, and technical deliverables for transmission projects. Hybrid work options may be available after initial onboarding.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform transmission and power system studies including Transmission Interconnection Studies, Reactive Power Compensation, Short Circuit (Fault) Analysis, and Circuit Breaker Rating Analysis.
• Build and maintain system models using industry tools and validate study data.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, model files, and study deliverables in accordance with project requirements and standards.
• Support insulation coordination, TRV/TOV analysis and other studies that inform transmission equipment selection and protection settings.
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary project teams, internal stakeholders and external clients to clarify scope and deliverables.
• Apply and stay current with NERC reliability standards (e.g., TPL, MOD, PRC) and ISO/RTO requirements (PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO-NE, NYISO).
• Contribute to continuous-improvement efforts, lesson-sharing, and mentoring of entry-level staff or interns as skills develop.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent from an accredited program).
• Minimum of 1 year of related power systems or transmission analysis experience.
• Ability to complete required pre-employment screenings (background check, drug screen, MVR) where applicable and in compliance with local laws.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and client coordination.
• Willingness to work in a team environment and follow quality, safety and project controls.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1–4 years performing transmission and system analysis studies.
• Practical experience with one or more system modeling tools: PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, TARA, TSAT, PSAT, or similar.
• Familiarity with short-circuit analysis, reactive compensation studies, circuit breaker rating, insulation coordination and TRV/TOV analyses.
• Understanding of NERC standards and ISO/RTO processes.
• Basic scripting/analytics experience (Python or similar) to automate workflows or perform data processing.
• Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to develop client-facing documents and coordinate with internal teams.

Compensation Transparency

In accordance with local requirements, the confidential client provides the following annual compensation ranges for listed jurisdictions. Final compensation is determined by skills, experience, qualifications, internal alignment, and location.

• State of Colorado: $91,047 - $152,053
• State of Minnesota: $86,909 - $145,142
