What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking a Power Systems Electrical Engineering Associate to join their Protective Relay Settings team in Olathe, KS. In this role you will support protection & control (P&C) design and protection setting development for transmission and substation projects.
- Develop and validate protective relay settings for lines, transformers, breakers, buses and other equipment
- Build and maintain power system models with tools such as ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP or SKM
- Create downloadable setpoint files using relay vendor software (e.g., SEL AcSELerator, GE Enervista)
- Perform engineering calculations and prepare deliverables following departmental standards and codes
- Collect, analyze and manage project data; recommend equipment and material selections
- Coordinate with project teams and mentor/guide entry-level staff and interns as needed
- Follow quality, budget, schedule, and safety requirements and keep documentation current
Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (accredited program) or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of related experience in protective relay settings development
- Practical experience with system modeling or power system analysis tools (ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, SKM, etc.)
- Ability to develop downloadable setpoint files on common relay vendor platforms
- Proficiency with Excel for calculations; familiarity with Mathcad is a plus
- Working knowledge of commonly deployed protective relays (microprocessor, electronic, electromechanical)
- Understanding of IEC 61850 concepts (GOOSE, MMS, SV) is preferred
- Strong communication, organization and teamwork skills
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- 1–4 years' experience in protection & control design or relay settings
- Hands-on familiarity with multiple relay manufacturer software platforms
- Experience preparing engineering deliverables and recommendations for equipment selection
- Previous mentorship or task-assignment experience with entry-level engineers or interns
Location & Work Model
- Job location: Olathe, KS (onsite-based with potential hybrid/flexible options after 90 days based on role and manager discretion)

- Estimated salary (from source posting): $64,895 per year (estimated). Actual pay may vary based on experience and the Confidential Client’s internal pay practices and location.
