Role Overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Power System Engineer to perform power system studies and interconnection analysis supporting generation projects and grid planning in Texas (TX). This role focuses on power flow analysis, model development, transfer analysis, and preparing technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Do
- Perform electrical engineering analysis to support interconnection of new generation resources and system planning activities.
- Conduct power flow studies, transfer analysis, and other system studies to evaluate feasibility and reliability.
- Develop and maintain power system models for interconnection and planning studies (PSS/E, PSSE, or equivalent).
- Analyze simulated study results and compare findings with operating data where appropriate.
- Evaluate interconnection applications for compliance with Planning Guides, Protocols, Market Guides, and NERC standards.
- Prepare clear technical reports and document study findings, requirements, and recommendations.
- Communicate technical requirements and study results to internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Track project milestones from study request through commercial operation and support queue management.
- Develop tools, queries, and procedures (Python, VBA, SQL) to automate and improve study workflows.
- Support data management improvements and stakeholder communication processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve interconnection study workflows and processes.
- Perform other power system engineering and planning activities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Entry Level: less than 1 year of relevant utility or power systems experience beyond degree requirements.
- Level 2: ~2 years of progressively responsible experience in the electric utility or power systems industry.
- Familiarity with power system studies and tools such as PSS/E (PSSE) and power system modeling techniques.
- Working knowledge of NERC reliability standards, planning guides, market guides, and interconnection requirements.
- Strong technical writing skills and experience preparing study reports.
- Proficiency with data analysis and database tools (SQL, Microsoft Access, Oracle) and scripting (Python, VBA).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Experience with generation interconnection processes and queue management.
- Practical experience performing transfer analysis and advanced power flow studies.
- Experience developing automation tools and improving data workflows.
- Prior work in the electric utility industry or with transmission planners/interconnection teams.
