Responsibilities
This is an entry-level Power Engineering Technologist role supporting Confidential Client’s power distribution and utility engineering projects. With supervision and mentoring, you will:
- Learn, practice, and promote safety policies and procedures 100% of the time.
- Apply codes, regulations, policies, and procedures to assigned work.
- Perform site visits safely and coordinate with construction personnel.
- Use design software and work-management tools (GIS/CAD and other client tools) to support project delivery.
- Prepare project/job packages: material lists, requisitions, labor estimates, site and construction drawings that maximize safety and reliability.
- Evaluate loading on distribution equipment (transformers, fusing) under guidance.
- Learn utility construction practices on public right-of-way (ROW) and private property.
- Communicate project status to ensure deliverables meet client expectations and timelines.
- Maintain organized files and records and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Mentor under experienced staff, supervisors, and licensed engineers; perform other duties as assigned.
Estimated pay (Adzuna): $60,964 per year (Confidential Client).
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree preferred; Bachelor’s degree in a non-engineering science, math, or business field is a plus. Some client projects may require an Associate or 4‑year degree.
- Experience: 0–1 year in power distribution engineering, craft work, or GIS/CAD is acceptable for this entry-level role.
- Certifications/Licenses: None required for entry-level; specific projects may later require credentials.
Skills & Abilities
- Basic understanding of electrical distribution principles and utility practices.
- Familiarity with GIS/CAD and Microsoft Office applications preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Good written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare simple correspondence and respond to routine inquiries.
- Ability to work with diverse teams and interact professionally with clients and construction crews.
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle suitable for business use (mileage reimbursement may apply).
- Ability to participate in storm restoration activities (Driver, Wire‑Down Sitter, Clerk) if needed.
Physical & Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with occasional field work: standing or walking up to 1/3 of the time; sitting regularly.
- May require climbing, stooping, kneeling, and working at heights occasionally.
- Moderate noise levels; occasional outdoor exposure and up to 1/3 risk of electrical shock in field activities.
- Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
