Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Plumbing Designer to join their MEP team in Champaign, IL. This role is ideal for someone with CAD/drafting experience (or a trade/technical background) who wants to grow into plumbing and fire-protection design work using Revit and AutoCAD. Estimated salary: $83,768 per year (estimated). Hybrid schedule is negotiable.
What You’ll Do
- Design plumbing and fire protection systems (domestic water, sanitary, storm drainage, medical gas, fire suppression, etc.).
- Produce construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Coordinate plumbing and fire protection work with other MEP disciplines and project team members.
- Assist with site surveys, field verification, and construction-phase support as needed.
- Apply and stay current with relevant codes, including the Illinois Plumbing Code, IPC, and NFPA.
- Learn from senior designers and take increasing ownership of tasks and deliverables.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with CAD, drafting, or design software — professional experience, trade background, or technical coursework qualify.
- Strong spatial and systems-thinking ability.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage your own workload.
- Clear and collaborative written and verbal communication skills.
- Genuine interest in building a long-term career in plumbing design.
- Transferable skills from nontraditional backgrounds are welcome — aptitude and potential matter most.
Helpful (but Not Required)
- Revit or AutoCAD experience.
- Construction, trades, or engineering field background.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) or interest in pursuing certification.
