What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring a Planner I (Part‑Time) to support municipal planning work for public‑sector clients in the Greater Los Angeles area. This entry‑level role is an excellent opportunity to build technical skills in land‑use review, permit processing, and public outreach while working onsite at client permit centers.

  • Provide zoning, land‑use, and planning information to the public, developers, and stakeholders
  • Support day‑to‑day operations of public agency permit centers and front counters
  • Conduct project site visits and collect data needed for application processing
  • Review proposals for compliance with General Plans, Zoning and Specific Plans, design guidelines, and development standards
  • Process minor land‑use entitlements and administrative permits, including:
    • Conditional Use Permits (CUPs)
    • Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)
    • Sign permits
    • Plan checks
  • Assist in preparing staff reports for Planning Commission and City Council meetings
  • Support preparation of resolutions, ordinances, and CEQA‑related documents
  • Coordinate public noticing (publication, mailing, posting) and distribute project documents to outside agencies
  • Help schedule and facilitate public workshops, hearings, and EIR scoping meetings
  • Prepare and file notices with the State Clearinghouse and County Clerk offices
  • Conduct land‑use or special planning studies and assist with municipal code updates as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, City Planning, Urban Studies, Geography, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant planning experience (entry‑level candidates with strong internships or relevant coursework encouraged)
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on multidisciplinary teams
  • Quick learner with the ability to adopt new policies, procedures, software, and regulations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to providing high‑quality public service
  • Willingness to work onsite at client offices throughout the Greater Los Angeles area (Carson/LA region)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay range (good‑faith estimate): $52,000 – $72,800 per year (pro rata for part‑time hours). Actual pay depends on experience, qualifications, and work location.
