Overview

This listing is for a Planner I or Planner II position supporting a confidential client in Lehi, UT. The role focuses on current planning, land-use review, site plan and subdivision review, ordinance implementation, and public-facing permit and development support. Candidates with experience or education in urban planning, zoning, GIS mapping, and municipal development review are encouraged to apply.


Compensation & Employment Type

  • Hourly pay: $26.63 - $30.28 per hour
  • Employment type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and process land-use applications (subdivision, conditional use, site plans, rezones, master plans, general plan amendments)
  • Coordinate Development Review Committee (DRC) processes and communicate DRC comments to applicants
  • Prepare staff reports, agendas, and presentations for Planning Commission and City Council
  • Conduct field inspections and ensure compliance with approved conditions and city ordinances
  • Assist with ordinance and policy updates, planning studies, demographic and environmental analyses
  • Provide planning, zoning, and code guidance to developers, contractors, and the public
  • Maintain records, logs, and application tracking; expedite processes when appropriate
  • Represent the confidential client at public meetings and planning-related events

Minimum Qualifications

Planner I

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a closely related field
  • No experience required; internship experience desired
  • Valid state driver’s license

Planner II

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a closely related field
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible planning experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Membership in the American Planning Association is required
  • Valid state driver’s license

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Familiarity with community development and urban planning principles, zoning, site development, and municipal permitting
  • Experience with GIS (e.g., ArcView / ArcInfo) and standard office software (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare technical reports and present to boards/commissions
  • Ability to enforce regulations fairly and work collaboratively with developers, staff, and the public
  • Good problem-solving, diplomacy, and project coordination skills

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Prior municipal planning or local government experience
  • Experience preparing Planning Commission or City Council materials
  • Background in housing, transportation, environmental assessment, or economic impact analysis

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Office-based duties with periodic field inspections and travel
  • Tasks include walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching; occasional exposure to environmental conditions on-site
  • Requires attention to detail, memory for details, and regular public-facing interactions
